“Thank you for contacting me regarding internet gambling. I appreciate hearing from you on this issue. Unfortunately, Internet gambling sites have become a powerful vehicle for criminals to launder funds, evade taxes, and they provide a direct pipeline of dollars into terrorist hands.”

I did some research on those comments

Trying to figure out the connection between online gambling, money laundering, tax evasion, and terrorist funding

So i went to Gary Miller’s website, right here

http://www.house.gov/garymiller/

And searched for any references to online gambling

And found this

March 17- Nearly 4,000 businesses that sell supplies or provide services to the federal government owe collectively more than $1.4 billion in back taxes, according to a Government Accountability Office study. Some of the findings: One security firm with a $1 million contract owes more than $9 million in taxes, yet the owner withdrew large amounts of money from the company for personal use including $100,000 for gambling. The gambling habit was shared by another contractor who was awarded at least $100,000 in a hurricane relief contract. Despite owing $400,000 in back taxes, the owner made “multiple large cash [withdrawals] at gambling casinos,” the report said. In another instance, a security firm with a $1 million contract and $2 million amount overdue in payroll taxes reported the owner’s personal income at nearly $1 million. A congressional committee and the Justice Department are further investigating the allegations of abuse and criminal wrongdoing

And that was all i could find relating to gambling

So after reading that, i concluded that in his reference to gambling, tax evasion, money laundering, and terrorist funding, he was talking about a Security Firm perpetrating these crimes

Since nobody else was mentioned, i must assume that this is who he had in mind when he made these allegations

Security Firm = Terrorism

I found that interesting, but a bit hard to believe, so i did a Google on “Security Firms”, to find out who these terrorists were

Result #1

SFGATE Security Firms Article

“Global security firms fill in as private armies
15,000 agents patrol violent streets of Iraq”

From their website

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2004/03/28/MNGHC5SKQS1.DTL

Mentioned were the likes Dyncorp, famous for kidnapping 200 000 women and children from Bosnia during the recent conflict there and selling them as sex slaves, and several other firms now working in Iraq, armed with AK-47’s offering “help” to the people of Iraq

So your congressman was telling the truth for the most part

He just forgot to mention that those terrorists he was referring to are Americans
