Honestly? It needs some restructuring. To me, when I first open the homepage, it just looks unstructured. I have a difficult time figuring out what exactly it is I am looking at. If I have to sit and scroll forever to figure it out, I leave. The content isn’t bad and if you can organize the layout a little more you would have a great start!
Depending on your knowledge of XHTML and CSS I would recommend looking into a CSS 3 column or 2 column layout. It is a basic well planned look with a title picture at the top and 2 columns below.
Here is a good layout template with CSS and XHTML with all of the code provided for you. This provides a solid structure and you should be quite pleased with the results. This site has many basic beginner layouts provided, so explore them all and see what you like.
