Maybe Jeff wanted the opinions of those here on the board before doing anything – after all, if Jenny hadn’t mentioned the above fact, Jeff might have let you sell the sites that way.
No harm in asking for advice from colleagues before tackling a situation.

FYI: I had a design client once, who had no clue. He bought Starluck-Casino.com or starluck(s)casino.com for three thousand dollars on ebay.
I told him not to pay the guy (he’d had arranged 1000 monthly payments and had already sent one) and to ask for your money back.
At first the ebay auctioner was not very nice, until I pointed out that he had resold Starluck’s COPYRIGHTED materials. You CAN’T resell someone elses product. It’s like burning copies of Windows XP and selling the pirated CDs on ebay…
It’s an obvious bad move.
Long story short, my client got all of his money back.
