But imagine readers write URLs of casinos in the forum.

Others that read the forum click on the links and land on a casino with which you aren’t affiliated and sign up as real players.

That is a common problem – spamming of forums.

There are a whole slew of things that can happen in a forum that cause you problems – you can find yourself with a bully who ends up discouraging others from posting. You can have spammers, you can have belligerent people attacking you or the casinos you list in the forum. All kinds of things can happen – and no one in a forum wants people to be banned or censored.

Both Casinomeister and WOL have had to clean up their boards and ban people and post concise rules regarding posting behavior.

Running a message board can put you in some pretty unpopular positions. No matter how you handle those, someone will be unhappy.

Add in that it is really hard to get people to post – and a forum is a difficult project. Either it is hard to get it going, or it is hard to keep it going in the direction you want it to. No matter what, it’s a lot of work and headaches.

I don’t have any statistics on this, but forums that take off to the point where they actually make good money are a tiny minority, and they take full time management.
