What a pain. Actually, this happened a couple of years ago to a gift ecommerce site I used to work with. One of their selling points was they offered later guaranteed next day delivery than their competitors and so made a hell of lot of sales in the last few days leading up to Christmas each year. Until some incompetent BT engineers cut the line to their server facility a few days before Christmas that year. They lost a hell of a lot of money.
