Can you say with confidence that your mail carrier didn’t get bitten by a dog? 
Like I said – too many variables involved – there’s no way to tell whose fault it is. But given that the other payments were on time, I’d point to a problem with the mail system – whether it be holidays, lost mail, something of the sort.
You can always ask them if they sent checks on time… LOL…
