I guess it’s a publicity stunt and by doing this they obtain new customers and business.. you see it’s only for a year.. now if you get it going nicely you will be there many years buying more domains and paying for the old ones every year. I think MyDomain.com is a trustworthy company and thus I think there’s no catch.
Will this “hurt” them in a short run… will it help them in the long run? Most definetly.
Here’s a text from their site:

No Strings – No Catches
No Joke!

Whatever you do, don’t wait. We expect this deal to be very popular and good .info names should go fast. Get yours while the best ones are still available.
To take advantage of this deal, just register the domains like normal and use the yr. dropdown to select “Free 1 yr.” in the shopping cart (see the image below). The price for your first 25 .info names will be $0 (1- year registrations). You’ll receive the same service and support that you would if you had purchased the names.
EXTRA RULES:
* – This promotion is valid for up to 25 free .info domains per customer. Any domains purchased for free that exceed the 25 per customer limit will be deleted from our system and any corresponding services (hosting, email, etc.) will not function with that domain name.
