Hi,
After two days of misery, Im back.
This is what I did to fix the mess:
I reinstalled the OS on my slave drive (assuming you have two HDs) Since I use 2000 it allows me to run multiple OSs on my machine. I don’t know if this is an option with XP. (it should be)
When rebooting with two OSs installed on your machine, you just pick off a small DOS driven menu which OS to run.
If I choose the old one, I can boot up, and everything is still screwed to shit.
If I choose the new one, I have never seen a faster computer… this virus (for me) was a blessing in disguise. It’s still a Pentium 4 under all my crap….
So don’t format…. just reinstall OS (on a totally separate drive) .. for instance I now boot of drive “
” instead of “C:”
No software loss and my computer is running faster than ever.
I can still login to the other OS and the computer is still “wigging” out.
I just select the new OS I installed at boot
For the software… I would login to the old, completly fucked up OS (I know this was the hardest part to do)
… keep the damn thing busy while it was trying to shut down and boot up on me… one way to do this is to run an application as fast as possible. (As soon as you see an icon, double click on it, if you can make it load before the explorer crashes, it will stay in memory (and all the BS will be flashing in the background) — it’s wierd as hell — but then you can just sit in the program waiting for the next reboot…. get real good at the keyboard shortcut to go to the control panel…. then get in add – remove… remove as many as possible…. reboot …. load new “fresh” OS….. delete the scraps… reinstall all software you couldn’t save.
I didn’t lose anything I cant replace.. thank god.
