Thanks for the excellent input Tim. These factors certainly must be weighed when looking at the big picture. I also agree with several of the points you raised.
The main thing that raised red or at least yellow flags was the apparent uniformity across the board among a group of webmasters.
When this appears to be “too” uniform, in what should be a baiscally random system, it catchs people’s attention, hence this and private discussions.
