Black Friday, The Day the Music Died, you can call it whatever you want to but the headlines on April 15, 2011 were nothing but bad for the online gambling industry. That’s the day the house of cards built by PokerStars and other sites that thought they could stay ahead of the law came crushing down.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t just the perpetrators of the elaborate payment processing scheme that paid the price. Plenty of Americans who gambled on a career in poker found themselves unemployed and without many options that spring morning.
As recently as May 1 an American poker player killed himself in Las Vegas and his father blamed the fallout from Black Friday for triggering his death spiral. It doesn’t get much darker than that.
