The US Department of Homeland Security has issued a letter to the Everleaf Gaming Netowrk to cease and desist poker operations in the USA, under threat of legal enforcement against the network. Everleaf has chosen to not fight the US Govt and has shut down US facing operations. They assure all players that their funds are safe and they are working with the US DoJ to make sure all players receive their money.

This sounds like a big deal… Anyone here affected by this? Would love to get updates on payment status.

I’m being told there will be some sort of release tomorrow regarding the payments but Everleaf is working with the DoJ to allow players to cash out. I don’t think they want another Full Tilt scenario.

On what basis have they been ordered to shut down? I thought the DOJ just stated last month that online gambling is not illegal. (based on their wire act comments)

More of the same – if we can’t get money from this then no one can.

Based on the wire act it is not illegal, based on UIGEA it is. The processing of transactions for US players is the hitch.

I’m glad you brought this up because at LAC the US wire act decision was all everyone talked about while I just shook my head at the lack of understanding of US laws. Until there is a federal law saying online gambling is legal it will be considered illegal. Some think the states will make it legal on their own but I see this being shut down on a federal level.

I also learned a bit more about the Everleaf decision and I’m hoping to confirm everything sometime later today but I can tell you that from what I’ve learned this may not be as it appears on the surface. I’m sorry but at this point I can’t get into the details. As I’ve mentioned before I only post facts and until I can confirm things it’s all rumors.

The UIGEA does not make online gambling illegal.

Yes, until the crooked politicians and ruling elite start getting money in their pockets for it, they will continue to consider it illegal even if its not.

no UIGEA doesn’t make the gambling itself illegal, it makes the financial transaction illegal. If you can’t transfer money, how can you play poker? It’s a catch 22 which is why the wire act ruling meant nothing.

Exactly what I thought when I read the article – I thought hey.. its not a shut down and cash grab! They are letting them exit gracefully.

In the scheme of how I thought it would have gone down – a good outcome for everleaf considering it could have been a shut down and bank accounts locked away for months and then sitting in limbo.

There’s been quite a bit of buzz around Everleaf through the weekend. Anyone know of any updates that folks should be aware of on the program?

It’s looking more and more like they just want out of the US because of processing issues. There’s tons of confusion amongst the skins because ELG is giving them updates that raise more questions than answers.

There was also a glitch over the weekend and players in the US were able to play.

They didn’t get shut down, they shut themselves down because processing was so expensive.

No one has a crystal ball so it’s impossible to predict the future.

If you’re just starting out, I would suggest a mix of US and Non US casinos. If you’re really worried about losing the US, you can always ask for a CPA commission rather than Rev Share. And since you’re new, that may be a very good thing. Yes you may lose out in the long run, but you’ll make more now which you can use to build up your site.
