Figure’s don’t lie, but liars can figure.
A cheat will find a way to cheat no matter what system is used.
Unless there is an independent audit of the operation (by an auditor not hired by that company), you can never really be sure that it is 100% on the ‘up and and up’. Even then, auditors can be fooled or bought.
Coordinated worldwide government regulation would help (unless they get too aggressive and start ordering everyone to do stupid stuff).
Industry discussion groups like CAP are a great resource for getting together to compare notes and bring some shenanigans to light..
A good deal of skepticism keeps you on your guard.
If everyone knows this, the crooks are less likely to target you or at least get more inventive and creative when doing so.
