I’m a big fan of sites with a video introduction, looks much more professional.
While I think that video element is a crucial part of any homepage, I don’t think it should be used as an auto-played introduction, for several reasons:
1. The sound is loud & dramatic. It might either embarrass somebody who opened the site in a place where he wasn’t supposed to or if their speakers are on too high, or annoy people altogether because there are no controls that you can pause the video or mute the sounds/adjust the volume settings. The usual solution for these circumstances are to hit “back” or close the window as fast as you can, which are both obviously undesired options.
2. If someone has a bad internet connection the first impression they’ll have of your site is the video buffering itslef…
3. A lot of people don’t have patience for introductions and want to immidiately cut to the chase. In your case it would be the text headlines and not the content of the video.
All that being said, the video itself is impressive and looks like a high-quality production. For the reasons I mentioned above, I would have used the video not on auto-play but waiting for the user to press a noticeable play button on the video box.
