That’s why I am not all over this, it just makes no sense. Something is wrong there.
It was probably the company BCP was contracting with to send their emails to their customers that was selling the info to Gold VIP out the back door. BCP does not send their own email- you can see that by inspecting the headers in the advertising emails that come from BCP.
Since my company’s core business is email marketing, I understand how this works. If you don’t seed your list before you give it to your list manager, your list manager has literally no risk in doing whatever they want with that list, including selling it to a competitor. In all of our list management agreements, we require our list providers to seed their lists, monitor those seed accounts, and create new ones periodically. They sleep better at night and so do we. BCP was clearly not doing this.
