I personally have not found one key successful thing that stands out, I believe its just plain over all marketing, directory submissions, article submissions, twitter, facebook and I still do the occasional directory submissions.
I wish there was one method that was outstanding but I have not found it yet, just plain promoting every which way you can, with quality content and hopefully that will pick up a few quality back-links.
