I think it may be a sitemap.xml issue.

Since I originally made this post, I deleted sitemap.xml from my server and removed from Google Tools and traffic seems to be picking up hourly.

I have had trouble with WordPress and Sitemapping since day one. For some reason, when I try to make sitemaps using WP plugins and other sitemap generators, the uploaded sitemap.xml returns a 404/not found when it clearly was in the WP directory. I can upload that same xml file to my root directory where it seems to work fine.

I have attempted sitemap generation from both my main root directory as well as just the wordpress directory and get the same results.

I am curious as to why xml (and actually html) pages return the 404 when located in my wordpress directory. Could it be a permissions issue?

I think I should begin mirroring my wp blog via static html pages and then concentrate on seo.

Any other advise will be most welcomed.

BTW… my site DOES get the majority of traffic from Google
