I never run into any of these “free” ones being used online, so is anybody really biting the bait and making money for the publishers anyway? Wouldn’t want to use them either. If people are so turned off by it, there’s got to be a better way of filling the need for templates while still earning a profit. How about just “cheap templates,” or maybe even “free” (lol) with only alternative affiliate links at the bottom, such as for loans or credit cards, etc.
I see em all the time… usually used by webmasters running wordpress, and with little startup revenue, so they find a free casino / poker template for wordpress and get stuck with these links.. all because they have no design skills, no web skills and just want to roll something out cheaply and cheerfully
affiliate links at bottom of a template is dodgy [if you’re the template maker] as lots of affil programs insist on knowing which sites your affil links will be on before they approve you for the scheme. they will prolly kick you off for this scam..
If running CC/loans links on a template you optimally want the site content to be about finance.. this doesn’t happen because people in finance have cash and brains to actually get a bespoke template designed, or they hire someone to customise a template for them.
I daresay if you reported a site to google for having all these enforced “free template” links on they would discount any pagerank on the site. not good, and something new webmasters should be aware of. .. Thoughts?
