I have my money invested in apple but use PCs. Like gooner, i can’t bear the idea of paying 2 to 3 times as much for the opportunity to start fresh again, finding new tools, etc.

I found the comment regarding the ipod strange. I’ve dropped my on concrete at least 3 to 5 times, it’s over 2 years old and works fine. The wife dropped hers in the toilet, pryed it apart with a screw drive ( i thought she ran it over with a car), dried it out and has been using it for about 10 months since.

In 1997 i predicted apple would be out of business by 2000, by 2005, i bought stock and at the rate their going, they’ll have a 10% + market share in the next year or so. back in 1997 there were around 1.8%.

I bought my ex an ipod 30gig photo for his 30th which was right when the photo came out (so was around $500). About a month or 2 after he got it, dropped it INSIDE THE CAR and the screen cracked so bad that you couldn’t see a thing on it… When he took it back with the warranty card, Apple told him that they couldn’t just replace the LCD, they would have to replace the whole ipod and that, on warranty, it would cost him more than what I had originally paid for the ipod. WTF?!
So I bought him another ipod for christmas the following year (30gig video – another $500) and he now uses the other as a hard drive. I also got him a hard case so the new one wouldn’t break.
I love my ipod, but the fact that they make them so you have to replace the whole thing just smells like money to me.. I suppose that has nothing to do with a Mac, but it will definitely be something that stops me from buying an iPhone.
Grrrr!
