Communication is the key, as with everything. Good affiliate managers send you an email once in a while to check on you. Poor affiliate managers (ex Pinnacle sports) you never hear about and forget they exist. A good affiliate manager pushes his company to be affiliate friendly and provide good tools (again Pinnacle comes to mind as being terrible).
