I can one up the phone cord as I am a bit older 70s era and I grew up in a farming community and we had a party phone line. Not really much of a party though it meant you shared the line with a few neighbors and had to be cordial when they picked up their phone and give up on your conversation especially when it was an adult on the other end. As far as privacy goes you had none. :whoa:
As far as the cable goes it didn’t exist we had a large ugly antenna on the roof that may have picked up 5 channels. I remember my Dad sending my older brother up on the roof to turn it just right to pickup the Sunday football game :laughing:
