I don’t mean to sound like a dick here, but have you seen a contract that says:
“We’ll violate any laws to make sure our customer is happy”
of course not. Governments change laws and those laws help some people and screw others. I would never expect people to break laws or take the risk of breaking laws in the own countries to protect my interests. I wish these folks hadn’t shutdown, but i’ve reached the same conclusion as them.
