Chips several things to ponder….
1. China has been a communist nation for over 50 years. Under that system 95% of the population were peasant farmers and lived in poverty. Nothing changed that for decades and nothing would have if they had stayed the course. See North Korea….
2. When capitalism was introduced in the late 1980s their economy began to spring to life. Now it’s 2007 and we are talking about the growing strength of their economy and the new found wealth of their people. Their cities are booming. Manufacturing is booming. And the personal income of chinese as individuals is soaring. ALL of that is the result of capitalism. ALL of it.
3. All of it is driven by money that is pouring into their economy from exports they send to THE WEST. Do you disagree?
4. Who is now the master of their country? The communist party leaders who are also now growing fat and rich from the influx of Western money? Or is Capitalism their defacto rulers?
5. Could they put the genie back in the bottle if they wanted to now? Wouldnt the people who have tasted freedom and money rebel if they tried?
The China we knew in the 50’s, 60’s and evn 70’s is dead and buried. Chairman Mao hated the capitalist model and is no doubt spinning in his grave. Our system, Capitalism swept through China like a great wind and blew away the socialist ideas that were their center piece of government. Surely you see that. The fact that you are awed by their growth and present economic properity proves my point. Assimilation….
