Probably because the money you put down on these cards is yours and not the credit card companies.

It’s not an issue of who’s money it is – as the system for these cards is the same as credit cards – the authorisation request from a merchant goes to a central respository and is given a yes/ no answer.

I think that this is simply an issue of focus. Online gamblers were not using prepaid / gift cards because they were expensive so attracted small volumes.

The prepaid / gift cards simply have not been in the firing line yet – but in essence if traffic starts to go there then they will be forced into working the same way as credit card companies and will eventually decline requests from merchants loaded as gambling companies.

This is a case in point of a principal that several people on here forecast – that the market will just keep hoping onto different mechanisms and use them while they work.
:hehe:

I guess the question is … as the existing methods continually get blocked is it economic (and worth the risk/reward) for organisations to set-up new payment method to function for a limited lifetime ?
