We also have a national health care system, government pensions and a lot more from our government than what the Americans have from their Federal Government. We also do not have a National Debt per person of $29,000 USD, we have a National Debt of approximately $15,000 USD per person.
Actually 15k is high for country with 32 million vs. 29k for a country with 300 million. The Canadian unemployment rate is pretty high too at about 7.6%.
