I HATE SPAM !
But I just cannot see making overture rich on spam. Also I see this as two wrongs to try and make something right …. It also gives webmasters a unethical ideas …. Basically pulling you into a boat full of holes.
Dominique – I know that is not you’re site and since it is spam I actually can deal with this. But as a paying advertiser I can tell you that they will get reimbursed for the false clicks if they have a handle on there stats. For all the people with assigned permanent ip’s … they will only suffer a little. I honestly am not picking at you either I am just stating the facts as to what this can beget/become. I do not need to pick at someone like you who is a great person in my book, I just want to give a better more ethical idea and solution to a major problem. Though thank you also Dominique for making me think even more about a problem like this. I may have a solution just bear with me and keep reading …. cause first I have to give a better idea of what kind of a monster we could build by following a person trying to do good but maybe in a unethical way. There are more ethical solutions to this. I also owe you one Dominique for making me think today, about something important today for the good of the entire internet and its future for everyone.
I get a little bit scared of the fact of fraudulent clicks are fraud no matter what and that is unethical. As that is all they are but fraud, and the idea is quite easily exchanged to include other business models any time someone gets upset. Then the people participating in the practice will make excususes for this practice to fit there own agenda and justify it likewise which could be more then just horrible as is shown below.
To put up a website like that is encouraging fraud on a large scale basis . That is fine, in this circumstance which I can justify, but well what if I do not like p**n and I honestly am mad that I get it in my email box … Do I now bend that to fit my agenda and say while you are all at it, lets click on any site that promotes smut also ??? I have a following of the masses so let us do this and make the web safer for our young children! Next lets do this to all sexual products because the monkey told us they are evil. How about guns next ? Next lets do it to printer cartriges don’t you hate those ads? Don’t you hate credit card ads ? Then gambling ???? In a perfect world the idea is a good one, but well we do not live in paradise right now and you can see that it could end up turning like a snake and biting us all in the ass very quick and by ass I do not mean mule or donkey !!!
Again this will only make more money for the pay per clicks in short and long term. The intentions with this web site are very noble but the end result is a bit scary when you think of it !!!
It would be better if overture instead was not so greedy, that they would take these ads, despite all this. We could click them if only we by doing this we were not only feeding the beast one way or the other. They should in turn take advertising to fight spam and info sites that tell you how in these categories.
If there was a program that could help us like that website sort of rather a mass form letter that you can modify on a personal basis telling them to stop this greed. Included with this a boycott of engines taking the advertisements. Hit them in the pocket books, cause the support office’s and teams of the engines to take notice. Make them pay for it out of there own pockets instead of getting more support from the money the spam companies give them for the ad spots. Make them think about the costs via time and money it costs to support these sites. Then at this point the bottom line for the advertisements would not look so good.
Imagine if there was a program that would forward all your spam to them as a attachement or form letter explaining this is why the pay per clicks are unethical for taking the ads. Some forwarded spam sent via attachments, some via just and add on to the spam , some zipped up, some not at all on a random basis with all of the spam sent to us would this not be more effective ???? It would bring down there support network and then they would get the message loud and clear, right in the wallet for all the support time learning to deal with the spam on a personal basis …. Does this make sense ? Now that would be a bit more ethical in my book. It still could be abused though not as much and it would be much more politically correct as well. To top it all off it would not make the pay per clicks richer it would cost them in order to take care of this small group of people.
Plus I do not have time to do all of this, if I have work pending which I always do. I am just trying to think of a good idea that does not benefit anyone with the spam at all while being conserving of the time of everyone … Now I gotta go delete all the spam out of my email box so I can get more ; )
