I think mostly for networking and meet others.

I won’t be attending BAC this year due to other responsibilities, but John will be attending if anyone wants to meet him.

PS> John will be representing BigBetPoker.com

Networking, meeting aff managers, making new deals, forming opinions of new programs. Meeting old friends and making new ones. I’m not much into the parties.

I haven’t actually been to a conference yet, but I want to! Was thinking about budapest, but will probably wait for london in january… and not just because it’s down the road from my flat! ;)

Prior to Facebook the face to face dynamic make’s a huge impact and adds to your credibility as an Affiliate Manager. To see and be scene at these events has been essential to my personal branding and increased my network exponentially. Yes they are very costly and the direct ROI is at times impossible to calculate because it’s a long term investment.

The friends I have in the industry that I met at these conferences I am still in regular contact with…add Facebook to the mix and you have a timeless bond.

It’s much easier to do business and build relationships with your partners face-to-face than on Phone/E-mail/IM. Bigger and better deals usually get secured in person, too.

Plus the parties + networking usually aren’t too bad. :capmiami:

I like meeting people from all around the world. Fun traveling to places some of us wouldn’t ever think of either.

This is basically everything I love about the conferences.. (apart from the forming opinions part of course)…

Although I do also love the parties.. It’s a nice “reward” for working my ass off all day.

BTW Dom I hear I may finally get to meet you in London next year. Very much looking forward to it :)

I think the conferences are invaluable. It’s great to meet people you’ve been talking to online, but have never actually met. It’s alot easier to discuss things in person. And ofcourse the parties are great fun. A great chance to meet up with colleagues/competitors, and a great chance to get some useful information :) I’ve done some great deals over the years at these parties

I usually go for a few key meetings, to see old friends and hopefully make some new ones. Budapest was great this year!

It is the best way to meet everyone involved in the industry in one place. Meeting someone in real life goes along way to building trust too.

If I lived in Europe (which I did for 5 years) I would attend them all but living in Australia it is hard to justify travelling 24 hours on a plane for 2 or 3 days.

Conferences are what you make of them. I’ve been to conferences with a serious hat on, with the sole aim of doing a series of deals and “behaving” myself. However, nowadays, and it may have something to do with how many I’ve actually been to, I take things far less seriously, hang out with the people I have met down the years at these things and meet many new friends. I actually did my biggest ever deal in a strip club in Prague (FACT) so it goes to show that having fun at conferences can actually be a sensible and profitable way forward. We work in one of the greatest entertainment industries after all. By all means don the suit and tie and nail some serious meeting time during the day, but unless you enjoy yourself, you’re missing out IMHO!

100% agree. I did a pretty good deal myself in that same club. You just never know where you might have the best business conversation and people are generally more open and less tense at the parties.
