It’s doubtful that would count as a link to another website as SE’s are mostly looking for sorts of links. You may not want to pull images hosted on other servers however since those webmasters can move images, change them, or even tell their server not to allow externally linked images.

If I understand what you trying to do, you are creating a link per say, and if you do image hosting, you will get a ton of links, and better PR. Is a good way to get traffic, but will be almost no conversions.
yes but this is why I ask, maybe it’s a way to get ranking, since everybody knows about tags, but what about
tags?
to me it makes sense that a page that presents image that sits in another domain will contribute to it’s ranking, but I don’t know if Google actually does this… I thought maybe someone knowsit’s not for conversion, it’s for PR of a domain,
let’s say that I have domain called “seo.com” and in it I put one image (jpg file for example)
and in other web pages I put HTML with img tags that show this image
will this higher the ranking in the domain seo.com in a way?I have not seen PR use this as a factor, and I would “assume” it would not, but have not done extensive testing to rule it out 100%. Maybe we should get a “CAP Labs” section to test things like this. Would be fun….If you like I would be willing to do a test with you and see.

Sure it will, if that image tag is wrapped in an tag, which will provide link juice to the destination page. How much link juice will be determined by the PR of the source page, obviously. It is doubtful that an image reference to an alternate domain, by itself, will do anything at all for you, SEO-wise.
I was under the same impression as seodude stated. I usually tag images, but thats to help contribute to the focus on the page and to possibly rank in an image search.
I am actually running a test on this as we speak. We all know that google counts the first link on a page, so set up two test groups, one I used anchor text to link to a page and then linked an image to the same page, in the second group I linked the image and then after it put a link with anchor text.
Test Group 1:

(image link with tag) (Anchor Text Link)I’m hoping to be able to track any PR shift and increase in ranking for the obscure terms based on this test.

seodude, how can you know for sure that IMG tags all by themselves are not passing PR ever?Lauferb, well I’ve been in SEO for over 8 years and have done a lot of testing, read a lot of articles and have been to many conferences. I’ve never heard one person state or prove that img tags can pass pr.
