Yes, online gambling is legal in the UK, for example.
And, no, there is nothing gray – gambling of any kind without permit is illegal in the Neths.February 13, 2009 at 11:30 pm #795301Anonymous

InactiveWell, If I was a Dutch player I wouldn’t worry that much. And EU gambling license certainly doesn’t mean jack to the Dutch authorities. As far as the news go, they are going the U.S. way, targeting gambling companies and their bank accounts:
May, 2008:

Dutch authorities have asked local banks to stop processing payment transactions for online gambling companies, while they have the full intend to launch a crack-down of the online casinos soon. “It is illegal to offer gambling services in the Netherlands without a permit. These companies know they break the law,” a Justice Ministry spokeswoman said on Saturday, adding that Swedish online gambling company Unibet and Dutch firm Oranje Casino were targets of those requests. According to the spokeswoman, a list of about 50 online gambling companies has been created and distributed through the local bank system with request banks to stop financial services to these companies. She also said that dossiers would be passed to the public prosecutor who would be tasked with bringing cases to court. “This is a Dutch issue, so we have only asked banks operating in the Netherlands to participate,” the spokeswoman for the Dutch Justice Ministry explained.
And recently:
http://www.ogpaper.com/news/news-02490.html
Dutch justice minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin has promised to crack down on the illegal online gambling websites in the country, according to news reports from the Netherlands. According to the Dutch justice ministry, it’s currently targeting both foreign-based gambling companies, as well as domestic, but refused to give divulge more details or any specifics. The justice minister also warned the local banks that they may face legal action, as well, since they would be breaking the law if having gambling websites as their customers.
If I was a BIG player, I would probably open a bank account in Belgium or Luxemburg for gambling.

InactiveFirst Hi Robin.. Good to see you here..
Without going in too deep on the legal subject, since this isn’t the place for it, here is a few things to remember..
Dutch players will just play online. If they win they can wire the money and pay taxes on those winnings and everybody is happy.. If they would go to a B&M casino is the uk it’s okay aswell, so why not online..
You are not allowed to operate an online casino from the netherlands, targetted on the netherlands. But if your operating from i.e. malta, malta law applies..
it’s not allowed to be a dutch affiliate. You are not allowed to to promote any caisno that doesn’t have a licence in the netherlands.. (only the state casino has a licence..)
If you want to discuss this, please do it in a private area.. or send me a pm/mail..
