    Hi Dom,

This is an excellent find, have any idea how long they have been around?

    It says:

Since its public beta launch in January 2008, NeXplore Search has steadily grown its user base, surpassing one million unique visitors in both May and June according to web-analytics company Compete.com. For its meteoric growth in traffic rank, NeXplore Search ranked 7th for the week of September 15th on the Movers & Shakers list compiled by Web information company Alexa.

They are still in Beta… In October 2008 they released the current, updated version.

Hey Dom great find – I have added them to my search index.

Hope you had a fun and safe Christmas.

http://www.nexplore.com/ is really interesting. I like the clean presentation and the way you can view just linear listings, listings with screenshots, just screenshots, or you can use linear and mouse over to see screenshots. It also shows wiki searches on the side, and suggests other terms.

I am an old google addict, as much as I dislike google I always end up using it.

I can definitely see myself using this instead… first time I came across one I actually prefer to google.

I also like the video and podcast search. Try the video search! It brings the videos live! Easy to add to your browser and make default too, you can do it even if you are a surfer with no computer skills at all. You can also add to favorites with one click, or send the result to social sites or the trash if you don’t like it.

The search results seem spam free, but I haven’t dug very deep.

I was googling for brass lamps some time ago and got really frustrated because the results were all netstores or amazon etc with very few actual brass lamps included, if any. I spent ages digging something up. This engine – tons of true results. The web is actually full of places selling true brass lamps – and I NEVER found them with google, I ended up buying some inferior products. I am impressed with the results. Try some off the beaten track searches.

Finally an alternative with some potential!

    Xmas was great, yours?

I truly hope this engine will appeal to people – google needs some competition sorely!

Hope it succeeds, but I find it frustratingly slow to load up initially – you get the search box instantly, but then it hangs and takes 2 or 3 seconds before you can start typing or interrupts you mid-type (in IE anyway). A small but irritating point – if its going to take on Google it needs to be close-to-perfect IMO :sarcasm:

    >> if its going to take on Google it needs to be close-to-perfect IMO

if its going to take on Google it needs to support non-English keyword search.

    [x] FAIL

I don’t like waiting for my search results.

It’s still Beta, I am sure they are working on that.

The linear mode without images, that just shows images on mouseover, is much faster and should be the product they work on.

Google needs some good competition so I hope they fine tune it so that it has a chance to grow fast.
