    Great signature Anthony ;)

My mother tongue is French, you can hear that awkward accent in the interview Yvette from CAP made in Cyprus ;)
I’ve been learning Spanish with my partner for almost 4 years now, although my grammar is poor i cam make myself understood on any situation (even embarrassing ones i promise)
I forgot my German, and although i’ve lived in Koeln for a total of 1 year and a half it’s a bit rusty buy with a good Weizen Bier mit Hefe from Munchen it gets back in order…
And my English is rather Frenglish sometimes…

I learnt French for 3 years for my HSC and finished top 10% in the state (end of school exams for anyone who is not an Aussie).. Didn’t speak it for 6 years but realised last year when I went to Paris it is still in there, just gotta knock on it’s door to open it back up again.. reading and writing is never a prob, although sometimes like Kelly I need to look up a word here and there because I forget what it is.

I also went to Greek school last year for 6 months and was learning Greek for about 4 years by ear… I can carry a conversation but I wouldn’t say I’m the best.. I know a lot of random stuff. Lots of historical things too. Apparently Greeks are very patriotic and living in a greek household really is like My Big Fat Greek Wedding.. everything stems from the Greeks somehow ;)

Learnt Italian when I was 10 and could speak it better than english, although not speaking it for 15 years I don’t remember much at all :(

My next language is going to be Hungarian – the mother tongue. Love learning languages.

Edit: Wish I knew how to speak Spanish – would have come in handy in Barca – instead I started talking to the cab drivers in Greek before remembering that yes, I’m drunk, and no, they don’t speak Greek.

I also love languages, although i’m not particularly good in learning them.

One thing i think is true… if you want to speakin another language,,, just don’t be afraid to make 9the biggest) mistakes.

    I speak Dutch, English (60 %), German (60%) and French, (30%)

I would expect most of you saffas to speak Afrikaans too right? Am I right to assume that everyone in SA gets taught both Afrikaans and English?

    #783265

Most people in SA can understand Afrikaans, but some aren’t comfortable speaking it. All those hard Gs and rolling Rs are a bit much for some people.

It’s my mother tongue, but honestly, it’s not all that handy anywhere but SA (and a little bit in Holland)

If you wish I can give you some online tips to get some Spanish lessons. :)

I am in the process of learning Hebrew wish is really difficult. In college, I took one semester of japanese but i forgot everything except the numbers. What is waiting for the children of the future? they will be speaking 4 languages minimum…

“best” thing in spain is that even when the clearly sees that you dont understand a word they are saying, they just keep on chatting away…usually even quicker then normally.

Ended up ordering my food in swedish whilst they replied in spanish… got some kind of food sent in, and to be honest it was quite a good meal.

At least I knew the word, Cerveza which helped….

    Yes please!
Actually I’m planning a trip in August next year for a month in Europe so a little may be helpful… Although since CAP Euro isn’t going to be in Barcelona anymore, might be a good idea for me to start learning the language of the place it will be, just in case ;)

Hebrew – I asked Yaniv to teach me a little, but he told me it wouldn’t be worth it coz who would I speak Hebrew to? I suppose he is right – I just wanted to learn a new alphabet ;)
For languages with a diff alphabet, I think once you learn the alphabet it makes it much easier to learn the language.

BTW Diana, you really surprised me last night when you could understand my Greek – I didn’t know you spoke it!

For everyone elses amusement, here is my “Quote of the Year”:

Ο κόσμος καίγετε καί το μουνή ξυρίζετε
(O cosmos kaigete kai toh mouni ksirizete)

I think that should be the first word taught when you learn a new language…
Once you get a couple into you, you can speak ANY language you want to :roflmao:
