I got the same one, I’d bet. Seemed strange, I IM’d back, but the person was already offline. I think it was a virus/bot on the machine logging into MSN, sending out IMs and logging off.

Did the person who sent it’s name start with C ? If so, I better email them.

OK looks like it’s a new phish, out today:

    http://maccabu.wordpress.com/2008/08/07/msn-virus-picfriendzcom81/

    Also comes in disguise:

    thatsyou.com
    friendz.com
    picfriendz.com

    …probably more.

Bottom line, don’t type your MSN Messenger password into a website you don’t know!!

I wonder how this propagates. Does it really come from the PC of the “friend” who sends it you?

My bet is, it infects one, then uses that “friends” list to send to others, more people enter their password info and off it goes sending it to their friends etc, etc. The only thing I can really think of that it can be aimed at doing is collecting email addresses for spammers or for relay.

I bumped in to this other form of scam for MSN

MSN Phish which seems to be a program that will generate a .php file that you can rename and a .txt file that I guess tells the program what to do, after that you use the whatevername.php file to set up a free domain to use as phishing tool. So I guess you have to be really careful on what you do with your browser also.

I personally use secway to encrypt all my msn conversation (the other person needs to have it too) I guess that helps and also never give my password to any site other than hotmail or msn.

Attached a pic of how that program looks like I got it from Google just in case anyone wonders :cappy:
