Have you ever heard of Lou Pearlman??

    LOL

Actually, watch out for theives like him….LOL

Before hiring one do a lot of google searches….pay attention to some of the forums that come up in the searches watching for a high percentage of complaints….

There are a lot of scammers out there that target those looking for a break….I know I worked for Lou’s companies….and then later Talent Rock….all of which are defunct companies now….(In fact I was happy to see Lou got 25years for his crap….I hope he chokes on the money I lost let alone a number of my friends and clients that lost money on his ventures)

I am more like ben stiller/Will Ferrell.. funny with a wild imagination.

I’m thinking about getting a video camera and doing a few skits that I wrote and sending in the dvd with a head shot. The only thing is I’m afraid they will take my work and if I get copyright they can just change it up a bit.

Oh well… I guess if you want to get somewhere you can’t be afraid.

I called 3 talent agents.. one said that I need to be referred to them to even be considered… others did not even want to talk to me… looks like you can only get in by who you know, If you know no one bye bye :hattip:

I looked up pearlman but I don’t think I have heard of him before.

    thanks:tongue::):3eyes:

if you are worried about people ripping your ideas, make two copies of the DVD and send one to yourself by Recorded or Registered post (something that you have to sign for).

When you get it, dont open it and keep it safe. Then in the future if you ever feel that you have been ripped, you have a dated and signed copy of your work that has a verified record from the post office too.

Its a basic form of protecting yourself. I used to use it all the time when i was a musician (ooh, get *me*)

    Hahha!

Lou Pearlman was involved with “98 Degrees” a bit…The “Back Street Boys”…”N Sync”…. “Brooke Hogan” …”Natural”….”O Town”

He ran numerous companies (many of which I worked for….and hosted the websites of) such as Trancontinental Records, Trancontinental Studios, Talent Rock, and many more….

Recently he was convicted af investment fraud, and many other things…..and the dollar figure was just a little under half a billion dollars….

….I brought it up because over the years I saw many things both good and bad with talent searches….talent agencies etc….so due diligence is certainly needed.

I have a buddy that does some stand up in NJ – Philadelphia – NY, and he has said that often comics really need to pay their dues doing open mike nights etc….and some states and geographic areas may have a circuit where you can do just that.

I would think if you did that, talk to the other comics that do that and maybe get some tips and/or refrrrals…

    Need a manager?

I’m heading to a wedding in Canada in a couple of weeks… the bride’s cousin is Carrie Ann Moss (for those who don’t know who she is, Trinity from the Matrix).. she will be at the wedding.. I could ask her for a few names if you like? Can’t promise anything though.. Just a thought.

    the bride, not my bride

Renee. Did i misread out of desperately lost love which would be (I promise) actual stalking … if it weren’t that I’m so damn lazy.

in any case … if you’re needing a bride then I am your man.

first thing I thought of was what Rick said, there are a ton of scams, nearly all of those kids contests are some sort of shady deal where they can get away with their deeds because they can only promise to expose your child to the agencies, not that they will be successful.

Its basically the same “out of jail free card” T&C clause that lesser sponsor programs (than those represented here) use to get out of just about anything they don’t like. Said clause that if translated would say, “and now that we’ve made you read 5 pages worth of T&Cs (which were crammed in to a single very long one), excusing us from everything from bad breath to unexpected, extended vacations by our ethics department … We now wish to include so to make clear that if we didn’t cover every possible scenario in a detailed, expressed manner in the paragraphs above, then we now take this final opportunity to point out to those courageous souls still with us, … “That we reserve the right to be our own judge and jury.

    Hahahahah
I wrote ‘my bride’ instead of ‘the bride’.. i guess it was a mix between ‘my friend who is getting married’ and ‘the bride’
    My bad..

It doesn’t surprise me that most of the agencies are scams.. Australia’s next top model chooses the winner before the show even starts… and it wouldn’t surprise me if the rest of the reality shows were like that too.. i guess the upside is that the talent is visible at least so if there are real guys out there they can contact you and poach you that way…

truckin – whats your performing background?

Well the last 3 guys added to saturday night live made it by doing videos on their own and posting them places. If you’ve got something entertaining, try to use YouTube and other existing sites to try to promo yourself. if you get some action and fame, the agents will find you.

good luck, hope you start climbing that ladder of fame right away.

If you can get some talk show, any talk show, even local cable, to show you, you may be able to squeeze into a national talk show and get on the talk show circuit.

One national show that likes to show the occasional unknown talent is Ellen. But it should be fairly easy to get on local cable shows.

Producing a utube clip that gets tons of views also helps a lot. And the more views they get, the more views they will continue to get.

You need to start showing yourself in public one way or another….
