Are you using the patches and/or gum?

So that’s about 4 days? Get yourself to 7 days and you’ll feel like its very possible…

Not this time. Pure cold turkey.

This is prolly my fifth or sixth serious attempt at quitting since I started some 16 years ago. None of the aides helped but I don’t thinl they’re strong enough for really heavy smokers. I was a 70 cigs-a-day smoker before moving to cigars in an attempt to cut down – which didn’t work and in fact made things worse.

    The Four Elements

    Fire
    Air
    Earth
    Water

We need the air in our body to survive
We need the food that grows in the earth to survive
We need the water in our body to survive
What’s up with the fire, we need the smoke man

Seriously, i quit then started again, no big deal, the problem is that everything we need, the four elements, are being poisoned, the chemicals in tobacco are not good, go buy smoke off the Indians, or grow your own, i would quit if i really felt it would somehow improve my life, even when i played sports people would assume i couldn’t run because i smoked, total bs, some of the fittest players in the world smoked, including a few of my idols growing up.

I quit almost eight years ago now. You CAN do it if you are motivated and believe me its worth the effort. Hang in there Fiction it gets alot easier after two weeks. I did use the patch though and you might want to consider it as there is no use making it more unpleasant then you have to.

I have been smoke free since Dec of 06, the first week was friggin HELL! You can do it, I did it cold turkey as well. Keep things for your fingers to do handy like sunflower seeds and keep little candies to mess around with when you get that nervous point, and I know mornings really suck but if you can make it past the first week you have it made!

    Hang in there Rob.

The only advice on the subject that i can offer: I’ve never smoked, while sleeping.

otherwise, i look to others for willpower and strength.

Out of all of our vices, smoking is one that science and logic should scream out to us: “STOP any way you can”

    good luck.

I quit two years ago, after smoking for over 30 years… it’s possible… even thought you are SURE you will kill someone that first month! ;-)

Thanks for all the positive words. Still off the smokes but would love one about now :)

Can I ask all the smokers here to blow really hard this way, please? Kinda missing the smell.

I quit smoking in Jan 06 and the first month was hard. I used the lozanges which made it easier, and the sweets didnt taste as bad as the chewing gum, in fact after a few days you end up liking them.

However soon you’ll forget about them and the smoke will start to bother you…and after a couple of months you’ll feel much healthier and you’ll wonder why you smoked in the first place.

For me it’s the best thing I’ve done in ages.

Get a prescription for Chantix from your doctor. It is great help when quitting. Search for it on the web for info. I’m about to quit too. I have the prescription for a week now, but Im too lazy to walk down to the chemist to get it.

Well Done Fiction. I would say keep it up for a few more weeks.

I am still an active smoker, don’t know if my advise is good enough, but get involved in a game or some sort of physical activity which interests you. It helps in curbing the urge to smoke. Once you are through the 3rd month, you will be safely on the other side of the fence.

    Cheers

smoke the ganja man …… :)

I was down to 5 cigs a day when I got busted for growing.

now I’m back up to about 1 1/2 packs a day ….. can’t wait to get off probation so I can again substitute …..seems to be my only workable solution.

    :)

or the only one I’m willing to entertain anyway.

btw: Nick makes an excellent point. Back in the day …. (as they say nowadays) …. people died from emphysema and TB …. not cancer.

That didn’t start happening until they started adding the additives to the tobacco.
