InactiveFabulous article. The best piece I’ve seen written about this legislation. It is only a matter of time before they repeal Prohibition II. How much time? Who knows?

Inactive:hehe: Hmm. Great article! I found some of the words to be too big for your average high school level reader.
These honest definitions may help, courtesy of Google:
ostensibly: apparently: from appearances alone; “irrigation often produces bumper crops from apparently desert land”; “the child is seemingly healthy but the doctor is concerned”; “had been ostensibly frank as to his purpose while really concealing it”-Thomas Hardy; “on the face of it the problem seems minor” |
paternalism: or more accurately Paternalistic Dominance, describes the relationship of a dominant group, considered superior, to a subordinate group, considered inferior, in which the dominance is mitigated by mutual obligations and reciprocal rights. The dominated exchange submission for protection, unpaid labor for maintenance. |
Prohibition: a law forbidding the sale of alcoholic beverages; “in 1920 the 18th amendment to the Constitution established prohibition in the US” |
prohibition: a decree that prohibits something |
incorrigible: impervious to correction by punishment |
cynics: The Cynics were a small but influential school of ancient philosophers. Their name is thought to be derived either from the building in Athens called Cynosarges, the earliest home of the school, or from the Greek word for a dog (kuon), in contemptuous allusion to the uncouth and aggressive manners adopted by the members of the school. |
plucky: gutsy: marked by courage and determination in the face of difficulties or danger; robust and uninhibited; “you have to admire her; it was a gutsy thing to do”; “the gutsy…intensity of her musical involvement”-Judith Crist; “a gutsy red wine” |
bridle: headgear for a horse; includes a headstall and bit and reins to give the rider or driver control |
