InactiveLand based casinos used to be one of the opposing forces to online gambling. Mainly represented by the AGA ( American Gambling Association ) lobby. The AGA has changed their tune realizing Internet Gambling is here to stay. They would rather join the club than oppose something that is impossible to stop. Sounds like commom sense to me. Profits would soar if Vegas offered online gambling.
Gotta love Shelley for her outspoken views.

InactiveI think she speaks out against a ban because she speaks for the Nevada landbased casinos who would like to get into the game. I doubt she speaks out against it because she wants the casinos that are in the game today to stick around.

InactiveYep, I think she is representing her constituents, namely Vegas casinos. They do want in.
However, as other land based casinos have learned, online gambling is a whole new ballgame, and just b/c you’re successful, doesn’t mean you automatically have the expetise to be successful at the other.
Successful online casinos have learned the hard way what business model is profitable, and works best. They have a head start. Unless the land casinos raid the existing operations and listen to the people who know, they will have a steep learning curve when they venture online.

InactiveShelley was very vocal in the HR4411 debate a couple of months back in the House. She was very much anti-HR4411 and put forward the motion that if they had to do it, they should drop the carveouts. Needless to say she was voted down, although it did manage to delay the vote.
She was a very good speaker btw.

InactiveIf the Vegas Casinos really were handed over the entire US market then it would be a massive oligopoly comprised of the big boys. Let´s not kid ourselves, with the necessary funds any odd idiot can setup an online casino.

InactiveMy guess would be that the B&M casinos will control the US market, and will be on the internet soon enough.

Yes, i think if it ever does get legalised in the US it will only be for US based casinos(so gov can get the taxes), they will give a load of bull saying only real land based casinos are allowed as we can regulate them and make online sites safe etc etc…… but the real reason would be the $$$ taxes.

InactiveIf you want to help yourself, vote democrat. Our (Vegas) Senator Harry Reid would be the Senate majority leader, which means he can just about stop any anti-online gambling item that comes in AND he can get any pro-online gambling legislation to the floor for a vote.
Berkley (I voted for her) isn’t just speaking for casinos. Most of us that gamble in Vegas want access to online possibilities, especially for sports betting.
While I’m not a big Reid fan, I would love for our state to be at the seat of power in the Senate.

I cannot see an upside for affs if this were to happen. Ya it might sound good off the cuff, but consider that affs will no longer be needed if Vegas enters the market, thus eliminating almost all aff websites … those that remained and were actually profitable would be those with unique content articles where the Vegas casinos would possibly buy ad space. the % of losses income would not likely be an option.
not too mention both the net and real-world in the states would be saturated with ads to play at the Vegas OCs … so much so that IMHO … when taking into consideration that if I were advertising Vegas online, that the first thing I’d hit on would be “we are regulated to be running fair-odds games and sure to pay so why would you consider playing anywhere else?”
IMHO if Vegas goes online, the aff side of the OG game would dry up quickly though admittedly the casinos off-shore would more than ever be grabbing up any and all chances to get exposure so affs might stay alive with that market but I sure don’t see Vegas ready to offer any kind of aff program which is like what we’ve enjoyed to date.
*no offense meant to anyone but I felt it merited pointing out that Vegas going online won’t likely be a good thing for the majority of us.

InactiveYes most of us agree this is true for the most part; vegas casinos won’t need affiliates. At the same time as you pointed out if the current casinos wish to compete they will need affiliates more than ever.
October 20, 2006 at 3:21 pm #712768Anonymous
InactiveI’m confused, why won’t the Las Vegas casinos need affiliates when the likes of 888 and Partypoker do??
Also if the Las Vegas casinos are allowed to have online casinos then surely that must open up the market again for the other established online casinos, how can they allow one and not the other?October 20, 2006 at 4:50 pm #712775Anonymous
