I would be leary putting yourself in the public spotlight. I think you need to think about the worst case scenario, and be sure you are protecting your children. Be sure to remember when it comes to politics, and government truth doesn’t have much to do with things. Remember, Washington is a liberal state.

As for me, most of my friends don’t know what I do. I tell them I run news websites. I imagine they all figure I make porn sites…but at least that is clearly legal, with no pending bill.

I would be very careful about drawing attention to yourself. You don’t know who might read the story — some conservative nutjob (possibly outside Oregon) might see it and decide to make an example out of you. You could be opening Pandora’s Box by doing something like this. If I was in your shoes (if I had 5 kids to take care of), I wouldn’t do it.

We all know that there is no law against online gambling, but that doesn’t mean some idiot won’t “try” to harm you for doing something that they think is morally wrong. :dozing: They could sue you for some bogus reason, and you’ll have to hire a lawyer to defend yourself. Or, some conservative freak inside the government might call a buddy at the IRS — next thing you know, the IRS is in your living room asking questions and pawing through your accounting files, making your life hell.

Also, under the Bush regime, anything goes. It doesn’t matter if what you are doing is technically legal — the Bush administration and the DOJ will do whatever they please. Shoot now, ask questions later. Surely if you received a letter from the DOJ ordering you to cease and desist, you would comply — even though what you are doing is not technically illegal. Going up against the DOJ would be a nightmare, and it would take years for the case to make it to the Supreme Court (if it got that far).

January 2009 can’t come soon enough for me. I am throwing a huge party the day Bush leaves office.
