We found that the best emails combine graphics and texts that describe specific promotions or news.

Make sure the text is readable and the images original. It has to look good and convey a sense of fun or play.

I tried graphic intensive mailers but find that they get caught by junk mail folders.

Even for 100% double opt-in mailers I find that filters such as cloudmark pick up on text with any mention of a casino kw.

I tend to go for short and sweet text, and try and sound intelligent unlike all that Vegas Affiliates spam that is hitting my inbox at an amazing rate of knots just now.

Thanks guys, you have confirmed my ideas. As much as I like nice and full of colors html, my aweber spam filter identify it as spam, before I even attempt to send. Using multi-part message (i.e. in both formats) seem to work best but lucks excitement.

Perhaps going with a link to webbased HTML page is another option … will have to do some split-testing …

To anyone who have asked themselves similar question … I would highly suggest doing a split test email. My results firmly pointed me into direction of using multi format, i.e. text email, with HTML option for supported clients. I did a 33-33-33 split emailing, with text, HTML that looks like text but with some highlighting and text modification options and HTML only mailer.

    • While HTML mailer sure looks pretty, I had less then 1% open that email and NO clicks.
    • Text didn’t allow me to see open rates but it produced less clicks then my second option.
    • HTML text – performed the best for me.

Your results might vary but I know what I’m sticking with …
