InactiveI’ve heard that both are risky but cpa is slightly less risky.
I’d be very interested to hear the opinions of the big affiliates out there.
I have two buddies that are lawyers in fields not related to gaming. One said it was silly to think that I’d ever get in trouble for placing advertisements on my websites for poker rooms. The other guy acted like I should sell my sites immediately. My second friend kind of freaked me out a bit. In fact, enough that I may switch to cpa just to be safe, as painful as that would be. (no more whales :unhappy:).
My personal opinion is that if you’re not directly targeting US citizens you’re probably ok?
Anyone out there actually speak with a lawyer specializing in gaming?

InactiveLarry Walters does, and he will be available to us at the CAP Spring Break in Miami, free of charge. It is a super opportunity to find out what’s really going on.

InactiveWait a second, i just thought of something. How could anyone go after you for being an affiliate when we see commercials for popular online poker websites on television now in the US. If there were laws that were so much against advertising for a casino/poker site don’t you think the lawyers for these media companies would tell their clients not to advertise a commercial for partypoker or ultimate bet????

InactivePokerCS,
The advertising you see on TV is for PartyPoker.net (not .com) same for all the other sites. All of the poker sites have a FREE PLAY only site on their .net version. This allows them to advertise their .net site on US Television. It’s a small thing that most people don’t catch, but media companies have no problems with advertising a FREE (No Money Involved) .net site as that’s just playing poker for fun, no gambling.
I’m sure most people don’t realize the .net and go to the .com or once the player has signed up at the .net they try to switch them over to the .com.January 28, 2006 at 12:11 pm #682079Anonymous
InactiveThanks for the info, I never realized that.
Hmm.. Let me just ask this then.
Does anybody know of anyone or have source to any information of a US Citizen being prosecuted for merely being an advertising affiliate. I’m not talking about financial partnership, but just a plain old webmaster affiliate who happens to promote a gaming related website.
