If the e-mail didn’t get through then you should have get a delivery failure notice from the mailserver, in which you should see what caused the failure. (E.g the recipient’s mailbox is full (in this case the recipient’s server will send the mail), or the email address is not correct (in this case your mailserver will answer.) But definitely you have to get an email about it.

If you don’t receive any response, then the recipient doesn’t answer your email.

    I hope this helps.

    Yep… that makes sense thanks.

However there are times when others send mail and no bounce is received… they are just lost. This can happen both ways sometimes.

Sometimes email messages are routed directly to a Spam folder, for one reason or another. Certain phrases and words in the message trigger this — e.g. “click here to unsubscribe,” “free money,” “viagra,” “$$$,” etc. Once a message lands in the Bulk/Spam folder, it is automatically deleted after a few days. If the recipient never checks this folder, they’ll never see the message. (I check mine, just for this reason).

One easy way to resolve this is to have the recipient add your email address to his/her address book. When your address is on this “white list,” all messages will be delivered to the Inbox, regardless of how many spammy phrases you include in the message.

Not sure how to deal with affiliate managers not receiving messages from affiliates, though.

Yes – I suspect that SPAM filters are to blame for “missing emails” when you don’t get a bounce or undeliverable response.

They vary from filters on Microsofts outlook, to commerical parsing engine to subscriptions to brightmails anti-spam service. (where they block known spams)
    :shooter:

I use the latter and it’s stemmed to torrent of SPAM at my published email addressesfrom 250+ per day to just 30 or so. And probably half of those are SPAM that hasn’t ben identified yet.

Just to clarify my previous post — I wasn’t implying that Roo was sending spam to anyone. :hehe: Messages can be routed to the spam/bulk folder for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it’s the email address itself that causes this to happen. :smoker:

The mail is getting a real PIA (Pain In …)

On one address I have a filter that takes out pretty much all spam and a bunch of stuff that isn’t spam bites the dust too..

Another I have a “boxfilter” which is wonderful – you have to reply to a mail once before it lets you in for life. That way only live persons can mail to it.

Another I leave up to my ISP and they do a fair to midland job. They let casino mail through since I asked them to. But that lets some other spam through too then – but not all by far.

It’s pretty much impossible to get all the mail you want and lose all the spam.

I have my newsletter set up so I personally get any replies to it – including inquiries from other boxfilters. That way I can reply and people can get the letter they subscribed to.

I hate that you can’t subscribe to things anymore – it goes into the trash with most filters if it has an opt-out, and all legal subscritions have to have an opt out.

Also replies to signups at message boards end up mostly in the trash.

Having 3 different addresses with different filter systems helps somewhat.

    What a mess!

I’m happy to know I am not the only one with this problem. I will have to find a way of working around these issues.

    Cheers :hehe:
