Thanks for the heads-up, Ken! I’m definitely looking forward to this update. Since I launched my site earlier this year, only the home page has made it into the Yahoo index. Hopefully tonight’s update will change that. :)

Dont get your hopes up, this site http://www.choicegambling.com/ has a penalty in yahoo. You can easily tell when a site has a penalty in yahoo, just search for the domain name choicegambling.com and click on more pages, it will look like it has your homepage indexed twice.

Are you sure about this? :Ohno:
If so, then casinomeister.com has a penalty too…
not to mention three of my sites.

Yes 100% sure, there is a reason why a lot of sites have a penalty, do a bit of research and you’ll find out why too.

I hope the update isn’t over yet. Above me I see a site in Welsh with no realistic relevance, and one from an appliance site with a page on online gambling.

I’d have to LMAO if this is what they call a better mousetrap.

so you are saying if I see my homepage listed when I do more pages I have a penalty ?

Any suggestions as to where I should start my research ?

I do notice that almost every page on my site is now in yahoo :)

Can you explain more about how this penalty works. If you search for “online casino information and watchdog” in Yahoo, CasinoMeister comes up first, even though they appear to be penalized when checking the “more from this site”.

If you look casinomeister.co.uk comes up for that keyword not casinomeister.com which has the penalty.

If when you search for your domain name then click more pages you see your homepage listed twice you have a penalty.

A good place for research is webmasterworld or the seochat forums.

From the quick looking that I have done, I see very little change in the keywords/phrases that I track…. hopefully, they are still working

I just want to add that although the “twice indexed home page” rule is correct, when you click on “more pages” your site is banned only when your home page is indexed twice, and there are no other results.

Sometimes Yahoo shows the index page twice, along with other pages from the site, and then your site is not necessary banned. I dont know what it means, maybe upcomming penalty…I have a website which has this thing right now, but still ranks for some keywords, so I will wait till the udate is over and see the results.

But if only your home page is showing (once or twice, no difference), than you have a ban, brother. There is nothing you can do – just stop spamming and hope it will get back in the index in an year or so :shhh: :grunt:

@Stupid]There is nothing you can do – just stop spamming and hope it will get back in the index in an year or so :shhh: :grunt:Well, I don’t spam — never have, never will. There must be another reason, and another way out of this. I don’t want to “hope” it will get listed I want it to [I wrote:

be[/I] listed and indexed properly, ASAP.

When I do a site: search (site:http://www.choicegambling.com) in Yahoo, I see one result. Then, when I click on “More from this site,” I get the same result (only one result, not two). Is this indicative of a penalty, if the “more” link only shows one result?

Well, about the spamming – it was more joke than anything (still true, however).

You should have avoided using free message boards.

Just avoid anything free as a rule of thumb!

Many people use these free services just to create a pseudo-sites, and them put a whole bunch of links to their websites from there. Yahoo gave the finger to this type of SEO, thank God.

Also, maybe you have a bad apple somewhere – you should not interlink your websites too much. I think 25casinos used to rank pretty good for “internet casinos” and now it’s gone. Correct me if I am wrong, I might be thinking of a different site.

I had a darn good site which was banned from Yahoo not because of spamming but because a bunch koksukerz just copied my website’s content word by word (although Yahoo’s explanation was something like “not enough content” or some made up shit like that).

Another possibility – have you submitted for paid inclusion in Yahoo Dir lately?

There are a whole bunch of reasons why your website might be banned by Yahoo, but no matter the reason – there is almost nothing you can do about it but wait and hope you will get re-included in some point of time. Hope is a good thing, I had a website being re-included without me doing anything, but wait. I took about 6 months, but it’s back in business.

The reason 99% of affiliate sites obtain a penalty is because there an affiliate site, yahoo dosn’t like affiliate sites fact and they have even admitted this. They tweaked there software a long time ago to pick up affiliate sites using too many affiliate links and apply a penalty to them.

There is a way around it and also a way to get back in, but i’m not about to disclose those details on a public forum, the way back in is nothing dodgy and involves creating a lot of unique content and other stuff.

The reason i’m not going to post details of how to get back in is because i’m enjoying less competition in yahoo.

The main issue here is to try and avoid the penalty in the first place, if a site has just a bunch of affiliate links on every page and cant offer the user anything else usefull then it deserves to be banned in yahoo’s eyes.

    Hi stupid,

I’m not sure which free message board you’re referring to. Yes, there are a few message boards who have decided to link to my site. I don’t know if it’s possible for incoming links to get a site penalized, is it? If that were the case, then everyone would post links to competing sites to knock them out of the game.

I agree that it’s a good idea to avoid massive crosslinking. But I only have two sites, and they aren’t excessively linked. Onlinepokercraze links to Choicegambling on all of its pages (in the footer, about 50 pages overall), but CG only links back to OPC once, on a links page. I don’t think that would be considered “massive” or “excessive” because (a) there are only 2 sites involved, and (b) the number of links pointing to CG from OPC is relatively low (around 50, as I said).

No, I haven’t submitted my site for paid inclusion in the Yahoo Directory.

I did some reading at Webmaster World this morning. In the long thread about the Yahoo penalty, several people said the best way out of this is to start a whole new site. Yikes!! There must be a better way….
