InactiveI totally agree. I haven’t met anybody who actually looks at popups to see what they have to say. Most will just hit the ‘X’ straight away. And anyway, if there’s anything worth saying in the popups it’s more beneficial to put the info onto your site.
I think I take it one step too far by not putting banners on both my sites.

InactiveI used to think just like you – I hated popups – I NEVER used them – then one day not that long ago (maynbe 3 months) I thought what the hell Im gonna put up a popup.
Within that popup there are 5 “last chance banners” as I call them. To keep the story short and oh so sweet – each of the banners displayed in that popup have received well over 150 clicks each or over 750 clicks for the last three months.
Today as you have stated people have an option – if they dont want to see the popups they can “try” (many have scripting to bypass the blockers) to stop the popups. In that case I lose nothin, but if they do see it and click on it – great!

InactiveYep – I hate popups too and I also stayed away from them for a long time, but since I addet the few popups to my sites I have really seen a quite a few depositing players coming from those so I guess they are worth it – even though they annoy the hell out of me, but then again there’s always the popup killers. So I guess it’s like Arkyt said – you dont loose anything by trying them out and the ones who hate them – block them.

Inactivelol yes, ofcourse popups works. I love my popups as they produce both money and traffic for me so no argument there.
But what I was wondering about was the number of popups. Do they really make money off the 5th or 6th popup?August 9, 2004 at 3:07 am #653151Anonymous
InactiveI think multiple pops have a diminishing value as well as really setting the annoyance factor into the red.
One well placed popup or a glide in ad can work wonders. I too hate popups but there seems to be a huge band of happy popup clickers on the web.

InactivePopups are a pain, no doubt – but so are the ads that come on tv while trying to watch a movie … we have video recorders, tivo and dvd’s but we STILL watch prime time Television – because commercial tv can afford to buy the shows we want to watch … thanks to ads!!!
I don’t get how they still work with the overuse of them – but as deaning said, the value is diminishing every day … once upon a time 30-50% of online sales came from popup & exit consoles!
I wish I could build flash overlay and superstitial ads – they kick butt over popups anyday, but are so difficult and expensive to build (I remember how much I struggled with my first javascript popup though – so it will only be a matter of time before superstitials are oversaturated too)
If anyone here knows flash, you could make a killing designing unique advertising tools for the casino industry!!!
