InactiveHey J,
This is not good and it relates back to the supeona’s and Gov. pressure on media outlets. Are US gambling portal webmasters going to pressured in the near future to take down online casino ad links? Has anyone heard any new news relating to this.

You don’t know Overture very well, do you?
=====================================
Cappie,
I was shocked at first… but the more I talk about this with people the better I feel.
My stats show me that only 15% of my traffic was Overture…
Besides that, some other company will fill this gap… MSN may step in…
And it won’t take long for players to figure out where the gambling listings have gone… Google is licking their lips at this moment.
I believe this news will more affect those BIGGER portals who buy all their traffic… GambleHouse… Cash Journey… They are gonna take a much bigger hit (percentage wise) that smaller or midium sites like mine.

InactiveHey J,
I agree with you 100%. I never did like Overture in the first place. Just think how much money Yahoo/Overture are going to loose. Only 6% of my traffic comes from Overture listings, so it is not a great loss for me.April 2, 2004 at 6:35 pm #647303Anonymous
InactiveYea, Allan, I won’t lose too much sleep here.
I started some good SEO a few months ago… and I bought up several good, key-word rich domain names. I think I’m more upset that the Overture Search Tool most likely won’t work for us anymore after this month! (I’m guessing)
My biggest competition is Casino Cash Journey. She has to be spending in the neighborhood of $50,000/month. Now, she will be GONE from Overture… her big butt’s been up there long enough anyway. And I know we will continue to fight on Google, but Google is not a “pure” pay-per-click like Overture was… You can’t simple out-bid the competition over there.
As far as the government coming after webmasters, I still don’t think that’s likely. In fact, I don’t believe this move has anything to do with presure placed on Yahoo… I think it’s just Yahoo’s business model to try to build solid profits away from a potentially volital (and legally murky) industry like ours.

GuestOh, that makes me so mad!!!
I won’t lose much traffic, either – but it’s the principle of the thing. Not only isn’t it a free country – but it isn’t a free world anymore either, thanks to freakin American legistation (or lack there of).
It isn’t fair that they can have an impact on the internet. That’s the www (WORLD WIDE WEB).
AND the whole issue is complete and total hypocritical bullshit . It is legal to gamble in united states – in certain parts – AND most of the state governments encourage and profit from it in the form of lotteries.
😡

GuestIt’s time for we casino marketing groupies to take action.
At the very least, most of us have mailing lists. We can start a campaign.
I propose that we compose (Look, I’m a poet!)
something that we all include in our newsletters. In this letter, we include a link or something – easy for our players to click on – to write their representatives an email to complain about this issue. At least that’ll be a start.
I wish the big guys with the money for a good legal battle (Yahoo, google et al) wouldn’t cave in to pressure so easily. They should take it to court and get a ruling on this thing. I think they would win.

InactiveYa know what… all the freekin’ PPC’s can drop us.
What concerns me more is this: Could Yahoo, MSN, and Google BLOCK gambling sites in regular search returns? OR, could they BLOCK certain key words from even being searched?
