InactiveBoth.
I think text links probably get better CTR’s in general, and I think the most effective thing you can do with a banner is have a text link immediately below the banner. The text link beneath the banner is almost always a good bet, IMO.
Experiment and see what your traffic likes. Generalizations like the above don’t hold true for everybody.
Hope that helps!

What are your feelings towards text links vs banner ads? I’m trying to find out which one works better as far as click throughs.

InactiveThere’s no reason you can’t use both.

Inactivehmmm…
Well I did some experimenting last night and today…
I took a drastic measure and removed almost all banners…except one on the top.. (that changes from page to page.) Most pages have just text links.
The reason I did this was because I was worried about page load time…
Anyhow…funny thing… my click throughs have increased over night since I did this. I got just as many click throughs in 24 hours that i did all last month. Could be a fluke…but interesting none the less.

GuestText links are reported to work better.
I guess the reason is that we’ve all become blind to banner ads over time.
Hmmmmm. Your page looks very good – it has an air of honesty and straightforwardness about it without the banners.
Maybe I’ll try that……

InactiveI hardly use banner ads, if I do they are small, unobtrusive and on the frames of the page, no more then 3-4 on any given page. Studies have shown that text link creates a more personable feelnig weather it be a recommendation of a casino or a promotion. The person reading the text is more obliged to click on that link then that of a banner ad that feels more like a sale is trying to be made to them or that a business is pushing the product on them!@
Thats my 83 cents worth

InactiveBanners are so overused these days and I have seen the ctr plummet from a healthy 5% a couple of years ago to less than 1% in a few cases.
A 125×125 in a review works for us but 468×60’s suck and the 120×600’s are still novel enough to get around 3-4%.
Been using those on a 1 per page basis quite effectively.
