CAP Glossary

Scumware is a technology that literally steals traffic or interrupts affiliate commissions by installing software on the user's computer. Scumware is very similar to Spyware or Adware, but this term specifically relates to software that “injects” the ware's affiliate ID where a legitimate affiliate ID should be. This technology is usually embedded in a download package, and oftentimes the computer user has no idea that it is even installed on their machine. Some scumware is so divisive that it cannot be uninstalled using simple tools, and requires specialized software or removal techniques. Scumware affects user computers so dramatically that sometimes the browser won't even be able to operate properly.
