Why People Say ‘SEO is Dead’

Search engine optimization is a bit like Jason from the Friday the 13th slasher films. No matter how many times it’s declared dead, it always finds a way of coming back.

Of course those folks signing SEO’s death certificate usually have self serving motivations for their diagnosis. A recent infographic from SEOBook titled, When Will SEO Die? tackled this phenomenon in a humorous, but thought provoking, manner.

Black Hats and White Hats

Two archetypes on the infographic that should be very familiar to CAP readers are the White Hat SEOs and the Black Hat SEOs.

There’s definitely some truth to the portrayal of White Hats as idealists using moralistic arguments to separate themselves from the pack. At the same time, Black Hats are put up as result-driven cynics who aren’t afraid to cut corners to achieve their goals.

Finally

The point here is that everyone has a motive behind their particular take on SEO. The sooner you understand these motivations, the better off you’ll be.

As for the death of SEO? That makes for great, keyword friendly, blog headlines but it’s not likely to happen anytime soon.
