Veteran Player the Star in WPT Tourney

March 23, 2009 (InfoPowa News) — Veteran Full Tilt Poker pro Steve Brecher is $1,025,000 wealthier this weekend after beating respected poker ace Kathy Liebert in the heads up to claim the top spot in World Poker Tour's Bay 101 Shooting Star tournament.

The entry field of 391 players was up on last year's field of 366, generating a bigger prize pool for the contestants, and after almost a week of action and a six-handed final table Brecher and Liebert faced off in the heads up in San Jose, California.

Final tablers were Brecher holding the chip lead on 2,056,000, Tony Behari (2,046,000), Chris Moore (1,476,000) Kathy Liebert (1,180,000), Thao Le (711,000) and Chau Vu (352,000)

Brecher held a 2.5-to-1 chip lead over Liebert going into the heads up, after almost 12 hours of final table action.

The final table contestants were all into six-figure check territory, with second placed Liebert taking home $550,000 and the rest of the table collecting checks as follows:

3rd Place: $291,500
4th Place: $230,000
5th Place: $180,000
