Last October MGM Resorts and Bwin.party announced that they were joining up to launch their own online poker partnership. The joint venture leverages some pretty serious firepower thanks to the mega-name recognition associated with both brands.

From a regulatory standpoint, Bwin is a good fit for American companies because they haven’t been taking American players since 2006, when the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was passed. Bwin may not be a favorite with affiliate partners, but government regulators seem to like them just fine.

And if you’re looking for companies with strong strategic planning skills, these two definitely fit the bill. Company officials said they’d been working on the deal for almost 18 months before it was officially announced.
