This year, the Cheltenham Gold Cup’s “jump from £475,000 to £500,000 for the Totesport Gold Cup” is drawing a lot of media attention. That means a lot of free advertising for the Totesport-sponsored event, and for the brand itself.

“The Totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup is the most important race of our season, and we are delighted that it will become the first ever half-million pound race run at Cheltenham,” Edward Gillespie, the track’s managing director, told the Guardian. “The race has been enthusiastically supported by the Tote since 1980 and, in that time, has produced some of the most memorable moments in jump racing’s rich history.”

The festival will be held in March, giving affiliates about three months of promotional time beforehand.
