Top SEO Myths
Like Bigfoot, SEO myths are always out there, here are a few you need to know about.
Is there a magical keyword density that can make your pages soar to top rankings? No there is not. Yes, you can over-optimize or keyword stuff (which makes Matt Cutts frown), but you can’t get that number just right.
Keyword density mattered a long time ago, but it just doesn’t mean much today. What does matter is creating coherent, high quality content that gets shared on social networks and actually provides value for readers.
You know who agrees with this thought? SEOMoz, and if that’s not enough to convince you, I don’t know what would.

agree with. SEO is about human, create content for human, not for machine.
Absolutely, great content is needed but that alone will get you no where!
I’ve been trying to rank higher on the search term ‘Free Lotto”. However, FreeLotto.Com has grabbed in the top three results due to their indexing of .asp pages? Google doesn’t seem to mind. Anyone know if this is this a legitimate trick to use against Google search?
Overall a nice compilation of tips, in fact I was expecting to see a lot of things that I would disagree with and didn’t really find much. Of course I always need to speak up for the black hatters, it might not work long term but for some people they might not have the resources or the talent to compete long term anyway, no nothing is being risked here.
As well, a short term profitable approach may be better period depending on the advantage that can be gained,. In other words, you put together a campaign and if you run into trouble, you adjust, and even if you get shut down, you just build another one pushing the envelope once again per the new maximum allowable standards
I’d even go as far as to say that even using terms like black hat is a bad idea. I’d rather see green hat, yellow hat, and red hat. This is like the three bears. Papa Bear is a green hat, is always scared and therefore doesn’t optimize. Mama Bear isn’t paying attention and is red hat, meaning that she uses things that clearly don’t work. Baby Bear is the yellow hat, not being afraid to try out things and optimize, and will discard anything that is in the red, so Baby Bear is always putting her best foot forward and is ruled by science and not paranoia.
OK well maybe I can say something as well about keyword density. So you are saying basically that keyword density doesn’t matter at all. By the way, SEOMoz doesn’t impress me a whole lot actually.
I can’t imagine why we would look to something and say, well there are more important things out there and this isn’t as important as it used to be, so let’s not even bother with it.
That makes no sense, and whoever gives you advice like this, I would be really suspect of. Keyword density is in fact still vital, not just important but vital, however the overall page density is less important.
So it’s actually all the more important to get your keyword dispersion right, meaning in terms of your tags and up front, and it’s less to to have to worry about distributing it throughout the text, although if a decent amount is going to be helping us a little, and it flows naturally, why the hell wouldn’t we want it in there?
