David Carruthers

Back in 2006 David Carruthers, then the CEO of BetonSports.com, was on a flight from the UK to Costa Rica where the internet gambling site was based. Though he knew the flight had a brief layover in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, he definitely didn’t know he would be arrested by Federal agents when he stepped off the plane.

Carruthers was charged with racketeering for his role in the company, which was taking action from US players. After an extended period of house arrest in Clayton, Missouri (where the Federal courthouse was located), Carruthers plead guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 33 months in prison.

Unfortunately for Carruthers, his months of house arrest weren’t counted against his sentence and he was sent to Federal prison where he served out his sentence.
